A grassroots view from the touchline.

Brian Lamont looks over the start to a new season for Pencoed, his beloved club. Brian will regularly be given us updates on their season ahead, which I am sure knowing Brian will be very entertaining!

Torrential rain, sunny intervals, hailstones and very strong winds. No, I am not turning into Mr Derek, it’s the opening day of the South Wales Alliance League. We started home to Grange Albion, and here’s one for you quiz buffs. Today was the first game for PABGC but also the first time Pencoed have played at home on the opening Saturday of a new season.

Grassroots wise no real startling facts to offer. Grange wasn’t bad but we were better, out of the blocks quickly scoring three goals before Grange pulled one back just before half time. The second half followed the same as the first with Pencoed on top and winning the game comfortably.

Saturday night follows the ritual of me assuring my wife I am still awake when trying to actually stay awake and watch the EFL on Quest. Sometimes it’s been known I really complete everyone’s day by watching MOD right through.
