Team of the week. Guinness Pro 14 League. Week 16

Three wins from the Welsh sides on an international weekend is a good return, unfortunately, the Dragons could not make it a clean sweep.

Some good team and individual performances for us to select our weekly best fifteen from, and here it is.

15/ Dan Evans – Ospreys. The consistent fullback put in another good performance. 66 metres covered in attack.

14/ Jeff Hassler – Ospreys. The hard-working, hard-running back three player was in good form for the Ospreys against the Toyota Cheetahs.

13/ Paul Asquith – Scarlets. Big fan of this player. A consummate footballer, who can play a number of positions. Yet another excellent recruit from the Scarlets, there is no doubt they have a great eye for talent.

12/ Ashley Beck – Ospreys. Scored a try and was a threat all night. Moving to Worcester next season, and if he can remain fit will be a fantastic signing for the Warriors. Outstanding player.

11/ Owen Lane – Cardiff Blues. Scored another try with a great finish showing good speed (not sure what the fullback was doing mind, seemed not to what any part of tackling the winger in full flight), however, Lane is a major talent and must be in with a chance of travelling with Wales this summer.

10/ Dan Jones – Scarlets. Excellent performance from the 10 in an impressive win for the Scarlets against Ulster. Controlled the game beautifully and varied his game very well. In Patchell and Jones have two very good 10’s which will aid them as they aim for League and European honours this season.

9/ Jonathan Evans – Scarlets. Third choice currently for the Scarlets, which tells you what strength in depth the Scarlets have. Evans is a fine scrum-half in his own right, as he proved against the Toyota Cheetahs.

1/ Nicky Smith – Ospreys. Loosehead prop carried well and also put in a good shift at the set piece. Has lost his matchday squad place for Wales to Wyn Jones, so has a challenge on his hands to get back in, but is more than capable if and when needed.

2/ Ryan Elias – Scarlets. Strong performance from the young West Walian front rower. Wales is blessed with a crop of strong hookers and Elias certainly falls into that category.

3/ Werner Kruger – Scarlets. Tighthead prop who is having a great season, another strong shift put in by the player.

4/ George Earle – Cardiff Blues. Two outstanding performances on the bounce from the second rower. When in form, a real force in the tight.

5/ Rynard Landman – Dragons. Two tries from the second rower. In a home loss for the Dragons, Landman put in a strong performance.

6/ Tadhg Beirne – Scarlets. What a player. Has been so consistent this season either wearing 4,5,6 or 8 shirts. Genuine world class player in our view.

7/ Ellis Jenkins – Cardiff Blues. A class performance from the open side flanker on Sunday. Strong at the breakdown and linked up well in open play. A fine player.

8/ Josh Macleod – Scarlets. Another fine back rower at the Scarlets. Has provided good cover this season, and can play all 3 positions.

So there you have our team of the week. Do you agree/disagree? Let us know!
