Purple patches in form are a thing of beauty within football. A short period of time where a player hits a level of form rarely replicated. Whether it be banging in goals for fun, or intercepting pass after pass. It’s fair to say that one player experiencing a purple patch is Dean Rittenberg, a very extended one at that.
Having scored his eighth goal in eight games for Bangor City in league outings, it’s fair to say the former Blackburn youth is shaping out to be the prolific number 9 the Citizens have needed for some time. Despite playing with the number 10 shirt, it’s clear to see Rittenberg is a natural striker with an eye for goal. So far this season, Rittenberg has netted 11 goals in all competitions, 4 in the league cup and 7 in the league.
‘Deano’, as he’s affectionately hailed by Citizen stalwarts, has really come into his own this season, demonstrating his varied skills as an attacker. A talented poacher, Rittenberg’s attacking positioning and clinical finishing have made him a deadly force, linking up with Gary Taylor-Fletcher who often feeds him in on goal. Whether it be on the verge of the 6-yard box, or the penalty area itself, Rittenberg will shoot and will score.
However, to say this is a purple patch is arguably not true, as the stats show it’s definitely doable for him to carry on this form for the season. With 8 goals in 8 games. As Henry Jones did last season, he’s making the WPL his own. With Daniel Nardiello being released earlier this season, it’s fair to say he’s stepped up to the mark and much more too. Dean Rittenberg is in superb form and very much leading the line in Bangor City’s attack, forming a deadly partnership with the skilled Gary Taylor-Fletcher. A partnership that has made City a feared attacking side.
Bangor this season have looked incredibly strong in the attacking front, with skilled wingers such as Luke Wall, and talismanic forwards like Gary Taylor-Fletcher. However, the stand out man is Dean Rittenberg, the in fine form City striker. Providing the Citizens with a much needed prolific forward, a capable candidate for the top goal scorer and a fan favourite.
