Cardiff Devils Netminder Ben Bowns has been named as the Elite League player of the week for the period ending 1st October. During this period, he managed back to back shutouts whilst the Devils won 4-0 against Dundee on the road and 5-0 against Braehead at Ice Arena Wales respectively.
Bowns, has been a mainstay for the Devils and is now entering his fourth season with the League Champions. Modest as ever Bowns puts most of his success down to his teammates and a heroic effort to protect him, by being first to rebounds and preventing easy chances for the opposition. His defensive unit is enabling him to concentrate on making the first up saves. The player of the week faced 23 shots in both games and not to concede is quite an achievement.
As well as praising his teammates, Bowns also believes another big plus for him is the continuity of the playing roster as most of his teammates are players that have been with the Devils for some time. The exceptions in defence are Drew Paris and Bryce Reddick but Bowns believes it’s been easy for them to settle in and for him to get an understanding with them.
