FM17: Flying The Flag, part 5

We approach Christmas with our promotion push on track

NOTE: I’m going to change style slightly from now on, just so that I can manage my time better between playing FM, writing this and other commitments.

December — Cardiff City

November is potentially a tricky month for Cardiff City. A tie against Huddersfield Town is sandwiched between clashes against recently relegated Newcastle United & Aston Villa. I’d take 4 points from the 3 ties.

I can’t ask for more than that, really. Our midfielders lead the way in all three matches, with Joe Ralls, Pilkington, Harris and Whittingham grabbing goals.

Up next is Georgia in the World Cup Qualifying, a chance to really put out a statement after our win against Ireland. We do just that, smashing them 5–0. Ben Woodburn grabs 4 goals, with Sam Vokes grabbing the other. Joe Ledley misses a penalty.

A friendly against Italy is our other match in November. Wayne Hennessy returns and I also give another chance to Wes Burns. We get off the a good start — Declan John putting us ahead after 20 minutes — but when Florenzi equalises for Italy just a minute later, we fall apart. We lose the match 3–1, which I’m disappointed by to be honest.

December — Cardiff City

Six games in December see us win just 2 games. We just have one of those Football Manager runs at the start of the month, drawing to Brighton, losing to Ipswich, drawing to Wolves and then losing to Barnsley.

We get the month back on track with two wins in our last two games, on boxing day and new years eve, which mean the Christmas period is a happy one in South Wales. Goals from Gunnar and Pilks see of Brentford 2–1 away from home, whilst Lambert, Noone and Pilks see off 10-man Brighton 3–1 at home on NYE.

We’re halfway through the season and sit nicely in 3rd place, just two points off leaders Newcastle. With the transfer window upon us, another striker is still high on my list. Rickie Lamber has scored goals, but at 34 he is getting tired.

Part 6coming soon.
